Amidst the onset of the pandemic, Chloe Warner was in the process of conceptualizing a sprawling 10,000-square-foot property in Atherton, California. Instead of halting the project, both Warner and her clients opted to forge ahead. Describing her clients as composed and determined, Warner, the visionary behind Redmond Aldrich and a celebrated 2022 Next Wave honoree, reflects on the determination to create a sanctuary for the family during the challenging times.

Transforming a Home into a Mini Resort

The homeowners, a couple with three children, decided to turn their home into a mini resort due to travel restrictions. The wife, a partner at a PR firm, wanted a welcoming space for her family and friends to enjoy. The new amenities included a gym, a pool house, and a pickleball court.

Creating Warmth in a Large Space

Despite the home’s large scale, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere was a challenge due to the abundant space. To balance the grandeur, the designer aimed to neutralize the sheetrock by introducing colors, patterns, and antique rugs. Emphasis was placed on creating harmonious pattern combinations rather than symmetry.

Design Elements Enhancing Coziness

Floral wallcoverings in the guest bedroom and office were used to create a cozy and intimate feel, while a playful banana-leaf print added a festive touch to the pool house. The dining room wallpaper was highlighted as a favorite feature, bringing sophistication to the space.

Satisfying Project in Silicon Valley

The project in Silicon Valley was particularly gratifying for the designer, who had worked with the family for many years. Having designed their second home, she witnessed the children grow from young entrepreneurs to college students. The house was perfect for social gatherings, with every corner being utilized by the family.

“The client’s love for scenic wallpaper led us to choose a beautiful Gracie design for her previous residence,” Warner explains. “We were eager to explore another option and settled on this elegant tone-on-tone tobacco, which has now become my favorite. The room truly came together when we noticed how the painter’s tape complemented the brown, allowing us to fully embrace the blue door.”

The Home Designer Guest Bedroom

“The credit for the transformation of this room belongs to our exceptional client,” Warner explains. “She discovered the vintage textile adorning the bed and repurposed items from her previous residence, a collaborative project we undertook. The final reveal truly excited us.”

The Home Designer aimed for minimal construction in the powder room, initially unsure about the dark marble counter choice. However, it ended up complementing the dark background of the Pierre Frey wallpaper beautifully, enhanced by the vintage mirror and sconces, creating a vibrant space.

“This corner illustrates the transformation possible when every inch of space is thoughtfully considered,” Warner explains. Despite being a pass-through area, strategic additions like a stunning vintage rug, exquisite artwork, and the brass record player console turned it into a beloved focal point of the home.
